A UK study found that women who are mothers are 20 per cent less likely to die early at any given point than their childless counterparts.
Breastfeeding is also linked to a longer life, as is taking the pill, according to the research, which studied hundreds of thousands of European women.

It is thought that the associated hormonal changes with having babies boost heart health and reduce the risk of cancers.

The analysis, published in the journal BMC Medicine, also showed that women who had two or three children were less likely to die of cancer than others. As well as this, it revealed that mothers who breastfed were 8 per cent less likely to have died than those who bottlefed their babies.

The study only looked at women but previous research has found that becoming a parent is also good for male health.
Research has also shown that a couple’s happiness increases with the birth of each child – up to the third.
But, when child number four comes along, levels of satisfaction start to dip.
I don't see how breastfeeding leads to longer life. confused smiley Breastfeeding means being drained of nutrients which leaves a mother fatigued then she's irritable because she wants food and she has to drag herself to the kitchen to make food for herself because hubbie is busy with work or out hanging with his buddies so the mother wearily throws something together to eat but loses her appetite because baby is crying and screaming.
They say that the biggest killer of the elderly is retirement. You have a job to do, you tend to stick around to do it. Same principle applies here. There aren't any actual scientific benefits to having children that lead to a longer lifespan. It's merely that you have a job you need to do.

"Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born."

I thought there was a study saying the happiness factor went down when idiots breed.

CERTIFIED HOSEHEAD!!!

people (especially women) do not give ONE DAMN about what they inflict on children and I defy anyone to prove me wrong

Dysfunctional relationships almost always have a child. The more dysfunctional, the more children.

The selfish wants of adults outweigh the needs of the child.

Some mistakes cannot be fixed, but some mistakes can be 'fixed'.

People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one. Leo J. Burke

Adoption agencies have strict criteria (usually). Breeders, whose combined IQ's would barely hit triple digits, have none.
All I know is, considering how hormonally screwed up I am already, the permanent hormonal changes that come with pregnancy would damn near destroy me (if not actually kill me). No thanks.

Like the saying goes, you may not live longer, but it will sure feel like it.

The cohort which is being considered for any longevity studies today consists of women who didn't really have career options in their youth. Contraception options were also limited since the pill hadn't come around yet. So women who didn't want children may have had them anyway, and women who didn't have children were probably largely childless. Either way, they didn't have a lot of options to find fulfillment through other activties. I am not sure those results are transferable to other generations.
Taking birth control increases longevity? This makes about as much sense as living longer because of having children. Tell that to the many women I know who have suffered permanent health issues due to having children! Have yet to meet a single childfree woman whose health suffers due to not having children.
