I do mind paying much of my tax bill. When it comes to roads, airports, the military, law enforcement, police, K-12 education... I don't mind that so much. There is an important role for government to play there. Unfortunately the federal, state, and local govts have all too often overstepped their bounds in the name of doing good "for the children." The new frontier of do-gooderism is "social justice," much of which is also "for the children."

The consequences of our tax system result in more government dependence, more poverty, more misery, less of the things the govt is actually SUPPOSED to provide (law enforcement, infrastructure...), and more breeding of unwanted children. It's a viscous, viscous cycle and its putting us on the path to bankruptcy and ruin.

The website referring to a "Medicare rebate" is Australian. "Medicare" is the name of the universal health insurance scheme there, and the thread dates back to the old Australian "baby bonus". For a while that was a lump sum of Aus$5,000 paid for sluicing. Because of perceptions of widespread abuse, the bonus later became payable as installments over the child's first year instead of as the lump sum; but now it has been ended altogether, replaced by changes in the tax system.

If you have bad credit, maybe that's a sign you shouldn't shit out a kyd.

If you have bad credit, you can't even rent an apartment or buy a house, so how in the fuck are you supposed to raise a child?

These idiots are going to get snookered by predatory loans and then want to whine to the media how it's so unfair that they can't afford to pay back that IVF loan because they now have a bayyyyybeeeee to raise and how their predicament is totally not their fault.
