The schoolbus!! The schoolbus full of CHYLDREN!!!
August 02, 2007
Well, I stayed up quite late last night watching the unfolding horror of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, MN. Of course, the news coverage was it's usual combination of speculation, guesswork and did you know about a school bus that had been involved...and more about the school bus...and the children are alright...and there was a school bus involved...and a man saved the children by opening the back door of the school bus...and there are 3 children who were injured...did you hear there was a school bus on the bridge...with children in it...and they got off the bridge...and they went to the red cross...and there were a couple that were injured....and they got reunited with their parents...execpt the injured ones who went to the hospital...and most of the children were alright...and some were injured...and they were in a school bus...and it was in the bridge collapse...and they were children...OH MY GOD THE CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL BUS!!!!

GAH!! What about the driver? What about the staff? What about the driver of the flaming bread truck with it's cab smashed in right in front of the school bus? What about the people in the cars that were just hanging off the edges of the broken cement? What about the people in the cars UNDER THE WATER? How'd they rescue folks from the car that was just sitting on top of a fold in the concrete? What about the car that was pointed towards the water and sitting on numerous bent ibeams?
Really, the only people they ever talked about were THE CHYYYYLLLDRENN, with no mention whatsoever about anyone else who was involved. I mean sure, mention it once, or you know even once an hour so folks just tuning in can know that the school bus wasn't filled with dead orphans and kittens...but then for chrissakes let it drop.

GAAAAH! I saw that shit too. Who fucking cares? There were a hell of a lot more adults involved than there were kids.

I wish there was someone I could contact who is directly responsible for the constant mentioning of the CHYYYYLDRUN to tell them how little I fucking care about the bratty little shits.

I'm just glad that it happened during rush hour when people were less likely to be traveling with their pets in their cars.
I was thinking the same exact thing! I had it on in the background last night and went into the kitchen to make a sandwich. When I came back 10 minutes later, I swear they were still talking about the bus full of CHIIIILLLDRENNN! Later on I was watching this with my girlfriend over the phone, since we have a mutual friend in the area who was on the bridge about an hour before it collapsed, and the bus came up AGAIN. She doesn't want to hear anything associated with being Childfree, but I took the muzzle off for a second and said "What if it was a bus full of elderly people on their way to the casino? Or just a regular Greyhound with a mixed bag of age, gender, and ethnicity? That bus would be getting just as much press as the other vehicles on that bridge!" She just sighed and I'm sure rolled her eyes, but at least people here know what I'm talking about.

1 Human Life= 1 Human Life.
Watch that gf of yours, Mattie, if you want to remain cf. Being with a non cf is very difficult.
She's a fencesitter at this point. When the relationship started two years ago she was a Wannabreed. You know the type, played with dolls since she could talk, never thought there was an alternative to motherhood. I haven't tried to actively change her mind, but she takes offense whenever I talk about how great it is to be Childfree. Time will tell what her decision will be, but whatever it is I can't lose. I'm either with a Childfree person I care about for the rest of my life, or I leave someone who wants kids who was never right for me in the first place.

Anyway, check out my article on the main page about further media bias concerning this Bridge Tragedy. I accidently posted it under "guest" since I'm still getting used to the board, but I'm hoping those here will recognize my writing style soon enough anyway.
The reporting's just as bad over here in the UK. God forbid that chyldrun come to harm and fuck the adults, eh?

Tonight at 6, how will the children survive the ordeal they lived through uninjured?
And then at 11: "How will they survive the trauma of watching OTHER PEOPLE die while they were relatively safe and just shaken up a little??"

I was in Chicago on vacation with my boyfriend (we went to Six Flags and to the Science Museum--but that's another post). And watching CNN, I thought how I couldn't wait to get back home and post here about how tired I was about hearing about that school bus. I'm glad the kids are okay, and that's exactly the point--THE KIDS ARE OKAY!!
What about those poor people that Feh mentioned--the people precariously balanced over the water, the people IN the water, the people UNDER the concrete. JMatties, I so agree, 1 human life=1 human life, and everybody should get equal coverage, whether they had babies or adult children, or no children at all. I feel the same way about missing people as well.
Link about the "school bus hero." I'm prolly going to hell for this, but I don't know that I'd call this guy a hero. I mean, what else does one do when one is on a bus full of people (of ANY age)? Get their own ass off the bus and then wave to everyone else while saying "yep, guess you're fucked! Byeeeee!"??

I think the real heros in that situation were whomever got the handicapped guy out of his van...and well, folks who just dived in the water and helped pull people from submerged cars, but you don't hear about any of them.

In case you didn't know, there was a guy in a wheel chair who swerved his van into a barrier as the bridge collapsed to keep the van from skiding into the river. He saw many cars slide past him, but couldn't help....and couldn't get himself out. If he got in his chair and went out the lift, he'd just roll in the river. Anyway, some folks came and helped him and his chair off the bridge...and they are awesome.
I was watching Fox News the night it happened and they interviewed one of the guys who saved the handicapped gentleman. Just a regular joe like you and I, works at the University right next to the bridge. Good story.
