My NPR worshipping relatives are EXACTLY OF THIS MINDSET, especially one of them who openly derides any talk of animal intelligence or feeling in spite of all of the scientific evidence available on that subject. They're no different than the backwards fundy creationists!

Bet your bottom dollar, it's ALWAYS going to be a breeder who will bitch and moan about any attention being given to ANYTHING but brats. If breeders had it their way we would have to listen to brats and everything about brats from sunrise to sunset. Some poor shmuck got killed in Iraq today? Not as important as Bratley's first potty training day! And so on.
