Has anyone seen this film? I visited a friend tonight and she put it on for us to watch. It stars Mandy Moore and that young good-looking guy from the Office. The plot basically is that Robin Williams plays a priest who puts the couple through pre-marital counseling hell. They have to pass all of these difficult tasks before he will let them marry.

So what does this have to do with childfree? There's one scene where the priest gives the couple a pair of robotic baby dolls that piss, shit, sneeze snot, and other vile things. The couple has the robosprogs with them in a department store when one of the dolls starts to have a tantrum and shits itself. The boyfriend flips out, shakes the baby and slams it repeatedly against a table, knocking its head off. It's sort of disturbing, even though it's just a doll.

So, of course there is no mention in the plot that maybe having kids isn't right for them; maybe a tubal or a vasectomy would be more healthy for this couple. In real life, wouldn't that be a sign that child abuse could be down the road? Oh, right. It's different when it's your own...and god forbid the issue of childfreedom ever be brought up in a mainstream movie.

Maybe I'm thinking too hard about what is essentially a crappy date movie (though it had some funny parts). I normally wouldn't rent something like this, but I mainly just wanted to visit my friend. We had a good time making fun of the plot holes and incredulous events the film portrayed. However, this movie is another example of popular media shoving irresponsible breeding down our throats.

I recently saw this movie on a flight to Vegas (which you would think, between the escort flyers on the street, the gambling/drinking and peep shows would be a childfree haven...but that's another rant). Oddly enough, the part that most disturbed me about the couple and potential parenthood was that the groom to be stated over and over again he only wanted one child (I can see why, after the way he flipped out over watching two robobabies and two real brats while his selfish fiancee registered for china patterns), while said selfish fiancee wanted to have four. Good God woman-tear yourself away from Spode vs. Wedgewood for five minutes to help out your man with the four brats-what a coinincidence, that's just the number you want to pop out! Never mind what he wants! Selfish shrew-and all too typical. If that guy was smart (and this movie was real) he'd get a vasectomy on the sly after Brat No. 1.

One of the main reason I do not pay any attention to movies and do not GO OUT to go see a movie.

There should be a movie called, "License to Breed."

Robin Williams makes me vomit.
I wish he'd stuck with the drugs.

I found it sort of disturbing and funny all at once, though it may seem to contradict what I stated earlier. My friend and I cracked up at that part, because it was very slapstick-ish.

I saw that movie on a flight to New York a few days ago, and I was the only one cheering when the boyfriend beat the shit out of the two roboloafs. The flight attendant in first class said she felt the same way and hated the breeder movies the airline shows.
