Giving birth in front of your children???

I always thought they were stark naked in the natural childbirth arena because it was more "natural", and/or because they always slid the kid up and out, bloody and all with umbilical cord still intact, and let it latch onto their engorged tits and start suckling. That's what they always show on the documentaries.

I see no reason for ANY childbirth, but if you're gonna do it, you might as well do it naked. After all, it was probably conceived while naked. What better reason could you ask for?

Muslims have that modesty thing where women are not allowed to show their neck and shoulders, and they sit there having the kid naked from the waist down but with the hijab on.

Seriously, what would be more traumatic for an older child to see? Mom's boobs, or a slimy, hairy watermelon emerging from mom's ground hamburger nether regions? I'm voting for the ground hamburger.

My mom took me to swimming lessons all the time, we showered together afterwards and, gasp! I saw her boobs...and the boobs of all the other ladies who'd taken their kids swimming because the lessons were at a place with group showers...you know what? It's not that big of a deal. Half of humanity has them. I mean, really? Boobs? Snore. It's not the Victorian era.

The ability to tolerate family nudity varies greatly from person to person- my mother was comfortable with it- I am mortfied by it, especially in light of an unhealthy childhood.

That being said, there are certain proprieties I feel should stand, lest we all become a nation of Britneys....

The bottom line is if they think giving birth and all of the grossness that comes along with it should be a famblee affair, then more power to them. I just wish they wouldn't post the shit for public consumption. Since they do make or allow the videos to be made and then proudly let them be posted on youtube and national television, I think this is proof positive that they are doing it for attention. Personally, I find the whoring for attention for something which should be private at least on SOME level, more repulsive than the act of the birth itself.

Of all the strangeness surrounding birth, recording it is the thing I have no understanding of. Why? What's the point? Does any family really sit around and watch these things ever?

Here's one for ya. My ex-husband worked with a guy who video-taped his DAUGHTER giving birth! How would ya like to be laying there with your DAD sticking a camera in your twat? That's pushing it with the family closeness IMO.

I concur. Unless you're part of a medical documentary, why should anyone bother filming childbirth? WHO would want to watch it? I sure as hell wouldn't want to see myself being born!

Regarding morons who film their relatives giving birth...I think Jeff Foxworthy said it best:
"Why would anybody want to film that? Because it's such a beautiful moment? I was there. Having a baby looks like a wet Saint Bernard trying to come in through a cat door. Do you really think I need a film to remember this? I think any guy who films his wife giving birth ought to return the favor by letting his wife film his hemorrhoid surgery later. This thread got me thinking about the worst, most horrible home birth pictures EVER. Someone on BRATS! found it many moons ago: All the Moo's kids were present; blood and guts and turds shooting out of her cooter; her one kid was touching her breasts; moo was naked at the birth and hanging around naked later, etc. Why in the name of all things holy would you post these pictures on the web?

So I went a-googling and I found this link, which made me want to kiss my tubal scar because I'll never do this to my body or my boobs for that matter:

In one photo the moo cow is breastfeeding her (3? 4?) year old while suckling the baybee at the same time!! GROSS!!

Mind-boggling how far those attention whores can go, even to destroy their self-respect and dignity to show off their golden meatloaves, too!!!

Or, alternatively, you could just open a new browser, go to birth diaries dot com. (No space between birth and diaries; I added one for clarity.) And click on "homebirth stories." The stories are rated in terms of how graphic they are. I clicked on one of the "very graphic" stories and that's all I needed to see. It's not something I'll ever have to worry about.

I went to the weblink. It is rare that child born underwater. People claim that child born underwater during births become top swimmer (not sure if that is true or not.

In the birth stories in general it looks scary and frightened.
It is good to show the clips of birth and pictures of the gory pictures of child birth because it shows that giving birth is not all holy/moral and wonderful. Also show the real facts of giving birth to a baby and what it looks like in full detail, even in graphics.

If you really want to get grossed out/scared, there are dozens of birth videos on youtube as well..

I watched the birth of a giraffe on TV when I was 5 years old and freaked right the hell out. If I'd been forced to watch my mother go through that, I'd be a lot more "spayshull" today than I am already. I think it would have blown out 2/3 of my brain.
