Woman slams Walgreens when a pharmacist refuses to fill her prescription to induce a miscarriage

Posted by quiltergirl
This is such bullshit. Woman's fetus stops developing so she decides to induce a miscarriage with prescription drugs. Pharmacist refuses to fill prescription, but sends it another pharmacist who will. Woman is left humiliated.

It was a male pharmacist too. Don't get me wrong it would be just as frustrating if a female pharmacist did the same thing, but the fact that it was a guy smacks of patriarchal control.

I'm no SJW, but it pisses me off that the general male populous think they are allowed to have an opinion on what women do with their bodies. Even in the article she says...

I get it we all have our beliefs. But what he failed to understand is this isn't the situation I had hoped for, this isn't something I wanted. This is something I have zero control over... I left Walgreens in tears, ashamed and feeling humiliated by a man who knows nothing of my struggles but feels it is his right to deny medication prescribed to me by my doctor

The fact is that his beliefs do not override her bodily autonomy. And how ethical can his beliefs be when he thinks he has the right to deny her the medication she was prescribed? By that logic, the pharmacist near me could refuse to give me my anti-depressants because he thinks I shouldn't have them - because clinical depression isn't real, ya know, you just need to exercise more and get over it already /eyeroll

This isn't about you, random asshat behind the counter, this is about the medical requirements of this woman - requirements, I might add, which were approved by her doctor (you know, the person who went through approximately 10 years of education and residency, and knows the patient and her needs much more than you do).

Even if she did want the tablets to miscarry a kid she didn't want, that's none of his goddamn business! Just fill the prescription and move on! I bet if this guy was a vegetarian and worked in a supermarket he'd refuse to sell meat products because it's "against his beliefs".
Let a female pharmacist deny men their Viagra prescriptions saying that it’s God’s will that they remain flaccid and impotent. Let’s see what happens then. Anybody want to take bets?

"Why children take so long to grow? They eat and drink like pig and give nothing back. Must find way to accelerate process..."
- Dr. Yi Suchong, Bioshock

"Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born."
- Garrett Hardin

"I feel like there's a message involved here somehow, but then I couldn't stop laughing at all the plotholes, like the part when North Korea has food."

"Bitch wants a baby, so we're gonna fuck now. #bareback"

I once saw a protester holding a sign that said "if pregnancy is God's will then so is limp dick."
It pisses me off that people can use their religious beliefs as an excuse to avoid following the law, or job descriptions. You know what would happen if an atheist used their position to deny medications to any of that bigoted crowd. ("Sorry, I can't fill your blood pressure medication, because I think the world would be a better place if you chilled out or died - your choice.") Sacked, death threats, public hand-wringing...meanwhile jerks like this can try to push their beliefs on other people with complete impunity.

And of course it is always about female bodily autonomy, because that's one of the easiest ways for them to practice being judgemental.

Is that not 50 shades of awesome?
I always thought they did a removal right there after seeing that the fetus "stopped developing." I assume that means died and needs to come out.

I think with that Red Hen thing, there may be more of this stuff, as places of business are refusing those they disagree with politically. Scary
Eeeeks, there is a guy on the comments who said that women should only be allowed to abort if she knows she will be a single moo, but not allowed to if "there is support available" ie the father. He basically said that if a man is willing to pay then he should have the right to the sprog as this Walgreens thing turned into an abortion pill thing in no time.

The article says she had two choices after the fetus died: D&C or pill to abort. She decided on the pill. Personally, I'd have chosen the D&C in the office visit to make sure everything worked correctly. I've never had a miscarriage, but the idea of taking a pill and waiting at home to miscarry a fetus creeps me out.

Yeah it does sound kinda creepy, but you know how they prefer to do things the 'natural way' and having the no-longer-viable fetus scraped out in the doctor's office isn't really natural.

This is the best thing I've ever read in my life! grinning smiley

I wonder how his 'religious beliefs' conflict with giving other medications? Maybe he should find something else to do and leave this shit to the professionals. I would bitch and complain about his unwillingness to do this, and then I would find another pharmacy posthaste to fill the prescription. Geez....it was a dead loaf, not even a LIVE one. I don't think that keeping something like that inside of you is a very good idea. Someone who is pro-life should also consider the fact that the woman has a life too. Oh, Yeah...it's all about controlling women, even if it means they'll die.

Where is the comments icon on cnn? I can't find it.

Yes, I'm old and senile.
I think Arizona is just as ass-backwards as the southern and mid western states. I live here and I'm not able to move. Yay.
