The IgNobel prizes are awarded each year for unusual and generally amusing research. One of this year's winners covered a really disgusting topic: Japanese scientists calculated how much saliva a typical five-year-old produces in one day.

The answer is really gross and more than I would have guessed (highlight to see the answer, hidden in case you want to guess): half a liter (about 17 fluid ounces).
