I'm going to solve this problem neatly by not being home. I picked up a shift that night (I work in an ER) and I'm going to make some money rather then spend it on a bunch of damned kids I don't know who won't say "Thank you".
I can't hear well, and my home has thick walls. We roommates generally don't leave the lights on in the front room, as we mostly live in our bedrooms (me being in front of the PC). We treat our bedrooms like our private apartments and the other rooms as 'community property' like an apartment complex would treat their compound. Besides, not having sidewalks or lit streets, we generally don't get trick or treaters. Mostly, the short set have a party at the YRMC.
