We Lost Amazon - and the kids will lose!
March 20, 2022
This is a big news story in our area. About 2 years ago Amazon announced plans to build a super size warehouse on a plot of land that used to be a research lab for Westinghouse. The warehouse was really too large for the area and would have required a lot of land clearing and retaining walls and changes to the roads and lots of fumes, traffic, noise, light in a residential area. A group of people protested this project but it looked like it might go through.

Yesterday, Amazon announced it would cancel this warehouse. People in the local area are happy.

But the local politicians are so Angry! Called people fools!

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald has released this statement:

“It’s unfortunate that a small group of non-elected residents have slowed down this development and impeded the many jobs that could be beneficial to youth in the Woodland Hills School District.”

Actually, there would be a lot of fumes and traffic near their schools that would be bad to the youth.

Since it came out about how bad Amazon jobs are with pee bottles, they are not even talking about the loss of 1000 jobs anymore. But that the students at the "high school will lose an opportunity to work at Amazon if they cannot go to college"

It is "what do we do about the loss of 11,000,000 in school taxes!" This is for a school district that in our area is known to be a bad one.

Since there are some teachers here I ask, if a school district is terrible, will 11 million make any difference? I notice no one wants to pay school taxes, do we need a tax on kids?

Do any of you think an Amazon warehouse is a good idea for kids?

Part about the kids starts at 4:40

Politicians just love to ooze about how bad this or that is for da childrun...in reality they mean for their pocketbooks but there is no advantage in admitting that.
