The GOP has reached a new low

or a different low as they can't really get lower

There is some GOP senator in FLA who went to a Daytona shelter for battered women. Most of them mothers and harassed the staff. Apparently the GOP want to shut down women's shelters forcing them back to their abusers who, to them, are the people who were born to rule them..ie men. Many of these women may have been kinda dumb to breed with these asses, but the GOP do not want them to escape their mistakes

Someone on reddit pointed out that it was part of the Handmaid's Tale agenda, no abortion and no way to escape men. Soon, no divorce, maybe even honor killings being legal if they get their way. I hope they do not take over in 2024

Oh no. It seems like some of the GOP want women to be treated like second class citizens in everything by taking away their rights to leave an abusive situation and forcing them to keep rape babies and denying basic medical care. What's next? Forcing arranged marriages? It's scary that elected officials think this way.

This reminds me of a documentary I saw on how women are treated in India. Almost no rights at all. What's happening to my friends in the US is terrifying. I truly hope that this stops soon.

If women are forced to remain with their abusers, it'll probably result in an increase in murder when women feel so threatened that they feel they have no choice but to kill their abusers. Which I'm sure will result in jail time, even if the killings are justified. Or increased murders of women by their abusers, but of course that's not nearly as bad because obviously if a woman is killed by her partner, she did something to deserve it. eye rolling smiley

That, or women will stop dating because they will have no way of knowing who might be abusive and then there will be more incels as well as much more bitching about the decreasing birth rate.

Why don't they just come out and say it? Let's just remove any and all rights women have. Abortion has already been taken away, even in instances of medical emergencies. Take away their outlet to escape abusive relationships, their right to vote, their right to work, their right to operate vehicles, decriminalize rape because women are property, require husbands' consent for anything a woman wants to do. Why don't we throw in some female genital mutilation and child marriages for good measure too? Maybe burning women at the stake for being witches if we're feeling adventurous.

I live in the last state in the South were abortion can happen until the end of the second trimester. Every seat is in the state is up for reelection this fall. There is a notorious anti-choice female representative who happens to also be an ob-gyn. Last year she voted on an abortion ban that had no provisions for the life of the mother or rape. (Thankfully it didn't have enough votes to pass.)

She is currently in a close race against a guy who is pro-choice. She's also as ugly as a bucket of assholes, but the Republican party is really sexing her up (to the extent possible) with new makeup and clothes and a personality upgrade too where she seems more "approachable." She is also running commercials now where she's saying she's for "reasonable" restrictions on abortion and there are other women in her commercials, like women of color who are agreeing with her. She says she "cannot abide" the current law which allows for abortion up until the day of birth, which is clearly a lie. She also says she wants to restrict abortions after 15 weeks but add exceptions for fetal abnormalities, rape and the life of the mother. (When she clearly didn't vote that way before.) But she's also saying she doesn't want to ban abortions.

I'm concerned because we as a country seem to have a lack of memory and many people are stupid and they don't pay attention. Few seem to remember that oily fucker Lindsay Graham and his cronies who pushed through anti-choice Supreme court nominees and now it's happening at the state level. In other states these representatives outright lie that these bills DO have provisions for rape and the life of the mother, until someone runs up on that situation and it's clear they do not. Or the woman has an ectopic pregnancy but isn't actually dying YET and no doctor will do the procedure for fear of losing his/her license.

The bottom line is, there are restrictions on abortion now. You have to find a doctor willing to do it. You have to have the money and you have to get off work. I keep waiting for women to wake TF up and realize that adding legislation is not "reasonable." Haven't we seen what happens when we let these assholes go wild? How they enact total abortion bans that mean women are dying?

I blame the women who say "I'm not a feminist" and want to cater to men and society. None of these legislators give a fuck about them and they should be voted out. I've heard men say that women are "single issue voters," like it's a bad thing. You're damn right they are--at least the thinking ones are. If you cannot control the number of children you have, or whether you have children at all, you cannot control your life, period.

It is really sad that women are backed into a corner on this. If we weren't, we could vote on more than one issue. It certainly doesn't make us feel powerful in any respect.

I do not trust muslim countries fully. But this country is rising through the ranks.. and damn quickly.

the bottom line is one can never ever trust a politician. the only true side they are on is their own.
