Off Duty Lifeguard Rescues Toddlers from the Sea
December 28, 2008
"AN off-duty female lifesaver has rescued two youngsters from the sea at an unpatrolled beach on the New South Wales south coast.

The lifesaver single-handedly saved a two-year-old toddler who had stopped breathing and also took a four-year-old child from the water at Barlings Beach, Tomakin, near Batemans Bay, about 6pm (AEDT) today.

Surf Life Saving Australia Far South Coast Branch spokesman Andrew Edmunds said the two-year-old had stopped breathing and was taken to hospital.

He said another child, aged 18 months, was also on the beach, while the mother of all three children was on the beach but was not supervising them.

"Quick thinking from the lifesaver saved the child,'' he said.

"The incident occurred at an unpatrolled beach, and it was pure luck our lifesaver came to the aid of the infant.''

confused smiley Only a moomie intent on killing 3 birds with one stone would take THREE kyds, aged 18 months-4 years of age, and allow them to roam around an unpatrolled beach and play in the sea unsupervised. I am not familiar with the beaches/sea in Whales, but The Gulf Coast waters in The US are generally quite choppy and susceptible to rip tide type currents at that time of the early night, during this season. .Even if the waters were calm, which I doubt, it is still extremely dangerous and irresponsible at the very least. The moomie must not have been very intelligent or she would have made certain that no one was around as a witness or to possibly thwart her plan of murdering her own kyds. As always, I think that the parent should be charged, arrested, prosecuted, and jailed for child negligence and possibly even attempted murder, if they had a possibility of making a case. That one child who was flown to a hospital may still die. If so, then the charge needs to be amended to negligent homicide or murder 1, whichever they can prove.

At the VERY least, even if the local authorities decide not to arrest or prosecute her for whatever reason, this incident needs to be made a permanent part of her file. Otherwise, next winter we may hear about three small children who.."... mysteriously and tragically vanished..." while playing on the beach during a Bahamian famblee vacation. Nothing will happen but a bunch of worthless candle light vigils on the beach by locals who have no idea that this was her SECOND attempt to drown those kyds. These cases nearly always have prior unreported or undocumented precedents, which are often brought out after it's too late. ALL of the moomie murders had "signs", including prior violence toward the kyd, but no one did a damn thing so as not to hurt the moomare's peewins or imply that she wasn't a good moomie.eye rolling smiley If moomie knew it would be a permanent part of her police file then she would be less likely to attempt it again. If she did though, in another area of the world thinking that she would get away with it, ONE phone call to her local police department (which SHOULD be mandatory in "mysterious" or suspicious deaths) would have her in handcuffs before she could leave the island.
