topic 1415: Hey Paul, talk to us in 6 months!

Posted by bell_flower
True, there are some vegetarians who take medicine tested on animals, but not all of them do. Even so, I think that whatever a person does that reduces animal suffering "counts". If people were to avoid engaging in ANY animal-friendly acts whatsoever, just so that no one could later call them a hypocrite because their lifestyle still includes some animal unfriendly activities (like taking pharmaceuticals), the end result is more (unnecessary) harm to critters. How is that helping anyone?

There are some vocal vegetarians and vegans who are self-righteous and treat non-vegetarians like crap. But for every one of them, there are at least 5 veggies who are tolerant of other people's value systems. I'm vegan, but I never get in anyone's face about eating animals. How could I? I used to eat meat... and drink milk... and take cold medicine when I had the slightest sniffle. Going veg is a personal choice. It was difficult for me at first, but it's much easier now that I'm accustomed to life this way. It may not be for everyone, but I applaud whatever small effort ANYONE, veggie or not, makes toward trying to reduce animal suffering.

exactly its your beleif, i am a carnivore myself. i love eating meat. but thats my choice, its the ones who force or try to force others to change how they are they are wrong. so long as you accept that there are people who enjoy eating meat and dont try to change them, then i have no problem at all (even though most veggies need extra vitamin suplements to cope with the lack of b12)

the thing with linda mccartney was her holier than thou attitude, that she was somehow better for being a veggie, i say to these people would you save the life of an animal over a human, is an animal worth more than a living thinking human, i object to testing makeup etc on animals, but to save my life or your life then sometimes its needed. i say sometimes sometimes it isnt.

i once asked you know these women (it is predominantly women) who threw paint over women wearing fur, how come they didnt throw it over a biker with a leather jacket.

back to the mccartneys.. apparently heather mills the new wife used to be a porn actress, and an escort.she is famous for who she married, if she wasnt married to him she would still be a non entity.

heres the story http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006250730,00.html

Days ago The Sun told how Heather was a would-be escort girl who dated rich Arabs behind the back of first hubby Alfie Karmal.

He said: “I caught her out lying over a job interview, which turned out to be an interview with an escort agency. Heather claimed she didn’t know it was an escort agency and said she thought she would just be showing clients around London.

“Under that beautiful, caring facade was a manipulative, callous and cold woman.”

In 1991 Heather suffered an ectopic pregnancy. Alfie sent her on a skiing holiday in Slovenia to cheer her up.

But once she was there, he says, she fell in love with her skiing instructor — a man called Milos — and finally left her husband. But not before trashing their home.

Alfie claims: “I thought I’d been robbed. A big glass door panel was smashed, wallpaper up the stairwells had been ripped off — the bedroom was like a bomb site.”

Mercurior, I always felt that Heather Mills was just "too good to be true". I had the impression that this woman was putting on an act to snag Ol' Paulie. The handicap re: her leg is also a sympathy getter from someone who has ulterior motives.

I never cared much for Linda, either. The holier-than-thou attitude always got under my skin. When I had tried the vegetarian diet, I never looked down on anyone else for their choice of food. Even with my vitamins, I often felt tired. Yes, I love steak! It is going to be hard to try this again...

I also asked why the women of Peta only throw paint on female wearers of fur rather than on biker dudes...but we know that answer to THAT...now don't we?
I should mention that, in addition to avoiding pharmaceuticals, a lot of serious vegetarians (and particularly vegans) avoid buying leather. Yes, it's inconvenient to avoid leather, because a lot of things people use every day are made of leather, and sometimes the substitutes leave something to be desired... BUT, if you are really committed to the cause, that may just be something you, personally, feel the need to do.

Alot of us have spent a lot of time thinking through these issues and making our lifestyle choices accordingly. Next time you see a self-proclaimed vegetarian/vegan wearing "leather" shoes, and you're ready to pull out the "hypocrite" card, please ask first whether they're real or fake leather shoes. And please respect that we're not a bunch of flakes and wackos, but that some of us are doing this for one reason only: because we care about all animals (not just cuddly 'n' cute ones), and we're trying to do what (admittedly little) we can, as individuals, not to contribute to their suffering.

Hey india, you could still try going veggie most of the time, then have yourself a steak dinner from time to time. I have been a veggie for about 4 1/2 years, and it works for me. My BF does eat meat and that's fine with me. I have had people ridicle me for being a veggie.

i dont care either way, so long as they dont shove their beleifs down my throat and expect me to change to suit them. i will make a decision on my own, and if someone tries to push me into it. well.. i am stubborn like my starsign and my chinese sign both ox's.. just imagine how stubborn i can be wink
