I had the same problem! Our old house had a pool, and the illegals next door would lift their kids OVER my fence to let them swim in my pool. Even when we were home! DH is too damn nice, so I always went out to shoo them away. Their moo said that in El Salvador, everyone shares everything, and we were bad neighbors. I replied that they weren't in El Salvador, they were in Los Angeles, and we have tresspassing laws that prohibit their behavior. The next day, I came home from work to find the kids in my pool again. I called the cops, and they told moo the same thing, and one more call would result in a citation. Guess what? They retaliated by keying DH's car, and saying we were shouting racial slurs at their kids. Total bullshit, but they were making our lives hell. We moved shortly after, and because of the filth, and noise, got a fraction of what our house was worth when we sold it. I agree with India- deport the whole damned lot of them!

I do hate it when "las familias" come over here and think that they can act in the same cr*ppy manner that they did in their own countries. They ruined their own nations and now they want to destroy ours with their rampant breeding and lack of respect for the laws. Our homegrown American white breeders are bad enough so we don't need more of that type from elsewhere. I also live near an Orthodox Jewish synagogue. The Orthodox also have large families but they are not out there bothering neighbors.

I get so sick the "you are a racist" slur. I am mostly into New Age and Eastern spirituality (Hindu). You can correctly assume that most of my friends are from India. And...many of them do have children because of cultural expectations. I never had any problem with Indian neighbors or their kids as I have with the Hispanic illegals & some of the legals. I know Spanish people at work who often feel embarrassed by what some from their culture do over here. One of the Ops Mgrs at work is Puerto Rican and a lovely woman. What she tries to overlook would make her a saint.

I also know a lot of wonderful Hispanic people who are mortified by this kind of behavior. They're thankful for the opportunities this country has to offer. Then there's the ones that expect the American people to cater to their culture, while they do nothing to make their lives any better. Those are the ones I'd like to see deported. They're nothing but freeloaders, anyway. I'm sick of the "race" thing, too. If it's that bad, they're more than welcome to leave.

the immigrants who assimilate into the culture are hard workers, and they do well, the ones who dont learn american english, and expect everyone to bend over backwards for them are the ones that are the problem, but its growing the spanish/mexican situation, the american culture is losing out, and losing their culture.

learn english, work, dont expect people to blindly give you money, if you work in an english speaking country.. then speak english.

With 24 major wildfires burning across the southwestern United States, fire officials need every firefighter they can get. They've done that in Oregon, but it's created another problem.

Officials are now having to lay off some of the bosses who manage those firefighting crews because the bosses are not bilingual. Many of the newer hires in Oregon only speak Spanish.

"What we do know is 85 percent of the crew makeup is of Hispanic descent," said Jim Walker, with the Oregon Department of Forestry.

The state said all bosses must speak the same language of their crew on the fire lines for safety reasons. They want to make sure that the leader of the crews can quickly communicate during an emergencey if the fire turns or if there is another problem on the fire lines.

"Our main concern is that they are safe, and they are in a safe environment, and a lot of that deals with communication," Walker said.

Because of the state's language requirement, Jaime Pickering can no longer work as a crew boss and supervise 20 firefighters. He can only manage a squad of four firefighters.

"If you have one Spanish guy on the crew, as an English crew boss, you can no longer be a crew boss. You have to step back to a squad boss, which is a demotion," Pickering said.

The state of Oregon actually made the change in 2003, after a devastating wildfire season in 2002 had contractors scrambling to find help. The state just started strictly monitoring the law this year, as Hispanics continued to fill fire lines.

"I think the (rule) is good, because that's for safety purpose," said Manuel Franco, who is a contractor for fire crews. He thinks the state's rule is necessary for worker safety.

"If there's a rock rolling down, everybody should understand that," Franco said.

But he does wish it were different.

"We're living here. We should speak the language," he said.

So why couldn't the state require that these crew members speak English? The state doesn't have a clear answer.

"If it comes down to a safety issue, and it's determined that's the only way we can have people safely on an incident, then yes," Walker said.

While I can be annoyed by some of our inconsiderate Hispanic neighbors, I have to admit that when I was teaching, the Hispanic children and their parents were always so respectful to me. The children were always such willing learners, and always very appreciative. There are wonderful people of all groups, I just get frustrated with my neighborhood because it's going sooooo downhill. We actually have 4 registered sex ofenders whose houses are within sight of my home. We went house hunting again today, but everything is so expensive.
