Ya know, your "letter" brought up an interesting thing that happened here at work a few years ago. A lesbian childfree co-worker broke her leg very badly skiing in Vermont with friends. She had to have surgery to repair the leg, and have the leg casted for gawd knows how long, keep it elevated, etc.
2 weeks after her surgery, she started getting the phone calls from her manager. "When are you coming back" "We're soooo busy here, can't you do some work from home" "Can you have your partner drive you in and we'll make sure you don't have to leave your desk at all?" "Can we arrange for transportation to get you to and from work?" Her answer? NO. Period. She threatened legal action and never heard a word again.
What pisses me off is that they don't do this shit to new mommies. Oh no, their time off is FAAAAAR more valuable because she is doing TMIJITW, not recovering from a badly broken femur.
They pulled this shit with a guy here who had a heart valve replacement too. Only he was a pussy and gave in, he came back before his doctor would allow him to because he didn't want to get fired. Shit, fire him and he'd own the place!
Unfortunately, this woman quit shortly after returning, citing the fact that if this is how they care about their employees, she wants no parts of the company.
