Yahoo Answers: "Should I wear diapers to Disney World?"
January 12, 2013
Another one from Yahoo Answers, this time from a 14-year-old wondering if she should wear diapers to Disney World.

Okay, so please don't make fun of me but I'm fourteen and I'm a bedwetter. My parents are planning a trip to Disney World soon and they are worried about long lines. Obviously I wouldn't piss myself because of excitement or whatever, and I can tell when I need to go and never really have daytime accidents, but they are worried because I have a weak bladder and don't know if I can hold it for that long.

Usually at night I wear Goodnites as I wet the bed once a week or so (no, you don't need to tell me to go see a doctor; I already did and my parents wet well into their teens so I will eventually grow out of it) so I will be wearing that during the car ride and for sleeping. But do you think I should wear Goodnites during the day just in case for the lines? My parents don't care, but I'd rather deal with wet diapers than wet pants in public. The last time I wet my pull ups during the day was about a couple months ago, during a traffic jam.

Please don't make fun of me. It's a disability of sorts and you wouldn't make fun of someone in a wheelchair, would you? (Nice guilt trip there.)

A snark from one of the people answering the question:

Lol I was trained at 2. No you should not wear diapers you should know how to per in the toilet and hold it. Your not an infant.

After another person asks about whether she's tried a catheter, the OP answers with:

I don't know if my parents would be willing to go through the trouble of getting me a catheter.

If I were her parents, I'd be embarrassed as hell to still be buying diapers for a 14-year-old that's perfectly capable of going to the toilet herself.

If this girl really does have an illness or disorder that causes her to wet herself, then her parents should be getting her medical treatment.

Does anyone else think that was particularly well written for a 14 year-old?

It makes me wonder who really wrote it.

This almost sounds fake.

I assume this is a female (calls itself emily) - so why not just wear some kind of period pad? If she's so well versed in the pull up department (do they even make them big enough for 14?) - you'd think she'd know about period products.

There are many adult incontinence products too. Even a cursory glance in a store shows some super absorbent and 'slim' looking items.

Wouldn't such a thing be more comfortable? And practical to carry?

If the whole family is going, can't she step out of line to pee, and then return to her group? If unsure - you'd think there are workers / ride attendants to help and they probably encounter such issues enough and have remedies in place (like may escort you in and out of line. you might even be able to parlay such a thing to moving to the front of the line.)

Also, plan your drinking and pissing accordingly. If you have a weak bladder - find the toilets and go often.

You'd think a 14 year old with pee issues, and the parents, would already know these things.

If it's not a troll, the lot of them sound awfully stupid. Maybe they have shrunken brains as well?

I typed that well when I was 14. Teenagers are certainly capable of writing well. It's just that our education system usually fails to teach them.

But in this case... if her parents can't even teach her how to piss in a toilet, I would be sort of doubtful they could teach her to write well. So... perhaps you're right.

If she only has "night" accidents then why is she going to be pissing herself during the day anywhere during the day?

Meh. If she has some medical problem which prevents bladder control she might end up wetting herself, but surely she's worked out a system for dealing with the problem by now? Why would she be asking the internet for advice?

I feel that this post was very well written. I also could type as eloquently when I was younger. I feel that this is less "bad parenting" and more of a medical problem. My grandfather, who is now deceased, had chronic diarrhea (sp?). He couldnt leave the house it was so bad. And he even had a constant flow of Metamucil (sp?) going into his system at all times! He eventually had to get a colostomy. I can definitely understand that this is more medical. However, there ARE medications for this. I hope she finds what she needs.

Why is she wearing diapers when she can just wear a maxi pad or a poise pad? Also, from the endless stream of medication commercials on TV, I have learned that there are pills that people with her problem can take.

If she's for real then I hope she wears a diaper for the sake of all the other people who will be sitting down on seats and rides after she gets up.

Yeah, no excuse for this. There are lots of meds that help with incontinence.

Not all of them help. I tried more than one, and still have the problem. It appeared after cancer and treatment. I do wear pads when out in public. When I go to sleep at night, It's diaper and pad time.
She should wear whichever product suits her.
She would not be the only kid at Disney wearing them.

The one reason I do not wear pants.

I hope she does not try hiding it in Mission: Space only to have it come out on someone else when the ride "takes off"

Parent fail. Kid needs a urologist and belive it or not an allergist. I've only seen it once but prolonged bet weting due to a bizzare mold allergy. I can't explain it all I know is I saw the case.
