A five-year-old boy intentionally started a fire in a McKeesport home earlier this week that killed his 2-year-old cousin, Ayanna Brooks, the Allegheny County district attorney said today.
After visiting the charred remains of the house on Soles Street this afternoon, Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said the boy used a lighter to start the fire on the first floor late Sunday.
The flames quickly traveled up the walls, collapsing the roof.
A woman and three children escaped; Ayanna died of smoke inhalation in an upstairs room.
"This is arson," the DA said.
Children under 10 cannot be prosecuted for homicide. But Mr. Zappala said the boy has a history of starting fires on purpose and is being evaluated by Children, Youth and Families to start court proceedings to possibly remove him from his family.

Pitbullgirl1965, that was the James Bulger case in Liverpool in 1993. The two boys tortured toddler James, killed him, and left his body on railroad tracks for the next train to destroy.
The two boys left Britain's equivalent of juvenile prison at adulthood but remained on what we call parole here in the US. British and European court ruling forbade holding them any longer, though some in the British government had tried to pull tricks to do so. Because of death threats, the perps received new identities and new homes.
One was busted for possession of child porn in 2010. He was released just last year.
Court rulings in Britain prevent everybody, including the media, from publishing the boy's new identities and locations. Some Internet posters who claimed to know them have been prosecuted for violating the rulings and given suspended jail sentences.
Frankly, these two perps got off light.

Of course the law can't do anything about someone his age. Fucking arson, at 5! Imagine what kind of danger this kyd is going to be when he reaches adulthood.
