Another restaurant owner snaps at screeching brat (in Portland). Predictable backlash ensues

At least the comments seem to be half 'n half instead of a total bulldozing by breeders
If I were a patron in that restaurant at the time that this happened, I would have given the lady a standing ovation. Parunts have NO business bringing toadlers into restaurants, especially shrieky, misbehaving, whiny ones.

I don't know HOW many times my meals have been interrupted by breeder assholes and their shrieking sprogs. If I had a nickel for every time that happened, I'd be a very rich woman by now.

People are tolerating LESS from breeders, and I am glad. Serves those breeders right.
Here there are a few breederific comments but a lot more applauding the owner. Many of those applauding are parents, who raised kids and now can't stand lazy parenting.

Remember lurking parents: it takes a village. That includes the shit you don't like.

Am flying into Portland this weekend. I know where I am getting breakfast.

I want to pick up a bus full of unruly kids and feed them gummi bears and crack, then turn them loose in Hobby Lobby to ransack the place. They will all be wearing T shirts that say "You Could Have Prevented This."
I bet the screaming hell hound shut up then. Probably sat there she'll-shocked as no-one halls ever told them to shut up before.

The owner did what she needed to do for the best interest of her establishment and the rest of the world. Parents who refuse to punish their children in public for misbehaving when they know better, deserve to have someone else say something to their kid, we don't need anymore disrespectful children. I am 100% with that lady!

Yeah I agree that owner lady needs a serious standing ovation for her actions, this Lauren commented something I firmly believe, if the parents not going to parent the child, anyone in the vicinity should be more than welcome to do the parents job the way said stranger sees best, if the parents don't like it, get should shut up an do it themselves right the first time.

Should see the smiling idiot parents, oh so happy for their 15minutes of fame on the news, all thanks to a screeching loaf
A lot of people supporting the owner here, too:

Apparently, the owner is childfree. If she's not a member on Bratfree, she should register here smiling smiley

Just checked on a Yahoo Newsfeed and as nearly as I can tell, all the posters are tearing the mom a new one, albeit nicely. I am so glad to see that people are getting tired of the breeder sense of entitlement. Seriously, what asshat sits there and lets their brat shriek and cry for 40 minutes?.
Oooh! I'm going to suggest to my mom the next time we spend a day in Portland, we should eat at this restaurant. grinning smiley
Bravo, lady! Bravo! The brat was surprised by the yelling and counter-hitting because it is most likely not used to such a sudden noise, AKA "discipline." Brats are wired to test boundaries and it often surprises them when they cross the line and are reprimanded for it.

One young-looking female not too far into the comments section gave the ol' "babies cry" excuse and seemed to lament that there is little to nothing breeders can do.

"I'm sorry but this is so wrong, kids scream they cry they play yes there is a time and place for it but sometimes you cannot help if your child starts having an episode yes the parents should tel that child off and do what ever is needed which half th..."

They CAN do a couple of things, which I like to call "take the toddler outside until it calms down", or "leave the premises and go home." Don't want to miss your yummy meal and be inconvenienced by your mini ape? Well, too bad -- part of parenting is making sacrifices. Anyone with even an iota of common sense gets that rearing spawn is difficult.

Leaving the restaurant teaches the screaming mini ape that there are consequences for its ill behavior.

Or better yet, don't bring the screecher in until it's old enough to sit down and eat quietly like a human being. There is NO need to bring a toadler into a restaurant. Ever.

They are guaranteed to get bored, get hungry waiting for their food or whatever, causing them to freak the fuck out. Feed those little bastards their chicken nuggets or pancakes at home!
My biggest question is why didn't they share the pancakes or buy the brat something. My mom always says that kids should eat first. Are these parents apathetic of the needs of their child?

Is that the new style of PR? It makes a nice change from all the kow-towing you regularly see.

The owner could be childfree, but she also could be a PNB who doesn't take shit from crap parents.

im sure i say this enough, but when i was a kid, if my sibling or i played up, started to cry or fight, even if my parents had their meal just arrive on the table as we started up, they would either ask if they can have it put in a take away container, if not, they would just leave without eating it, and boy would we hear about it all the way home, the guilt of not letting our parents enjoy a meal out, was obvious to us even as very little kids, not to mention the actual discipline we actually got for playing up,

1. no meal made at a restaurant
2. the embarrassment of being the reason why we left
3. the ass beating in the car park
4. the lecture that didn't stop once we got home
5. sent to bed without dinner -or something small and crappy we didn't like to eat as punishment
6. hearing the story brought up over the next month, because people would ask how the dinner out went

we were at least 6 before we could have a quiet meal in a restaurant, and any time my parents saw a kid playing up nearby, would point out to us thats what we used to be like and how annoying is that.

its extremely rare these days to find a 6yr old kid that can behave for a full restaurant meal out. -that isn't mcdonalds.

It's actually worse than that, if I'm getting all the details right.

Apparently, they ordered the food, then deliberately placed it out of their kyd's reach. For 45 fucking minutes. While the kyd screamed and cried to eat, they just sat there with the food in the center of the table where the kyd couldn't eat it or reach it.

That's just fucking ridiculous and kind of cruel, honestly.

And the owner went over there 3 times to tell them to either take their shit to go or to take the kyd outside, and they refused. They deserve everything they got quite frankly. And anyone coming to their defense is as much of an asshat as they are.

It never ceases to astonish me how many breeders really and truly believe that table manners aren't something taught in the home, but rather something their absolutely feral, unsocialized brat acquires by osmosis in restaurants from other, unrelated people. That's seriously the reason why people take screechers to "nice" restaurants (IOW, anything a half-step up from Chuck E Cheese or McDonalds) : "How will s/he ever learn to act in public if we don't take him/her out around other people?" The notion that maybe, just maybe , parents should try to teach kids how to behave in a civilized manner at the family dining table and leave the kid home till s/he demonstrates mastery of table manners , cutlery use, not getting up and running around like a maniac, shrieking ,or eating with its mouth open...All such thoughts are utterly foreign to them.
Yep... next time I go to Portland I am going to go to Marcy's ... hug that woman... and then sit down and have a meal. Oh gawd... now I want to drive to Portland just to do that. Man... that woman is my hero of the day! I would have stood up and cheered. I bet if one person would have given her a standingO then the rest would have followed...and then held the door open for the offending fambly.
At first I thought this was in Portland Oregon, then I saw it was Maine and it made sense. I've known plenty of no-nonsense types like that woman, and it's not surprising she owns a diner and only takes cash. She is not a lunatic, like the super sensitive cow mooed, she is real and there are plenty of hard nose get-it-done types with that attitude in New England. It's one of the things that makes little diners fun, as well as the regulars. Moo wanted to control that tiny privately owned corner restaurant using her brat as ammunition and it didn't work.

Only thing, I think the owner should have made them leave before she got too pissed off. Not asked, made, as in escorting them out or calling the police. It sounds like the parents were being cruel by keeping the food from the kid, and prompting the behavior that was very extended, so that is really a valid reason for making them leave.
I, too, overlooked that it was Maine, not Oregon. Kudos to the owner, she did the right thing.

Reviews on Yelp have been positive, too.

This sounds like attention whores looking to run to the media and get their ugly mugs all over the TV about big meanie doody heads. Wanna bet they baited Bratley on the plane or in the hotel lobby to no avail?

I can't say owner's technique will make any PR textbooks but it is swinging in her favor....even other parents are fed up with demon spawn and the ignorant fucks who whelp them.

I will be showing my support this weekend when I head there for an event.

Yeah, refreshing that she's not kissing breeder ass - but it's not terribly professional. Threatening violence? Yikes.

Her response was entertaining, but will likely turn some off. It did me after going back and reading about the incident in its entirety.

She sounds like a shrill, name calling fishwife. I would be wondering if she treats all problems that way. Complain about slow service? Get cussed out. Send your eggs back because they were runny when you requested that they be fully cooked? Screeches.

The principle of not putting up with breeder behavior stands, so she was correct in booting them out. I would have told them to leave and followed up with the cops, but I don't like being around anyone who thinks that the loudest and foulest words accomplishes anything.

And I have done just that: asking for the check even if I'm not done eating, not leaving a tip, and walking out. It was when some kind of blowup happened in the kitchen of a hole-in-the-wall place we checked out. We could hear the screaming and cussing out on the floor. I don't patronize those sort of places and they are likely to earn a bad review from me on Yelp.

If I was the owner, I'd be leery of calling the cops, because I'd be afraid that the parents would make up some horseshit story to the police, and the police would believe them. Especially since they have The Almighty Loaf bowing with them, I wouldn't trust any cop to be impartial in this situation. I speak from experience in this. The neighbor's hellspawn set fires in my garden with dead leaves under a dead tree, and when I caught them, and called the police, they were quick to judge this as arson until they talked to the duh, who convinced them that this was an accident, and that kids will be kids, especially since intentionally walking onto my property, making a huge leaf pile and setting it ablaze is such an accident :headbrick
I just think that the owner should just stay off of FB and Yelp and other sites and just shut up about it. She used awful language in those posts that will anger more people. If she just spoke to the local news and then just kept off the other social media... it would blow over and those who agree with her (and there are a lot) would keep on patronizing and those who don't could quietly taketheir business elsewhere. Her mistake is talking on social media... and using harsh language.
